The new Italian law on Made in Italy into force, including intellectual property provisions
Measures to promote innovation, fight counterfeiting, certify origin and production chain 11 January 2024Today – 11 January 2024 – the new Italian law 206/2023 for the enhancement, promotion and protection of Made in Italy excellence comes into force.
The law intervenes on various production sectors with the aim of supporting the development and modernization of the production processes and the growth of the qualitative excellence of Italian products.
Industrial and intellectual property will benefit from the law provisions, including:
- the reactivation of “Voucher 3I – Invest in Innovation”, expanding in the number of beneficiaries – startups and micro-enterprises – for the purchase of patent consulting services;
- the establishment of the “Contrassegno per il Made in Italy”, a tool aimed at fighting counterfeiting and protecting the intellectual and commercial property of products of Italian origin;
- the guarantee of a higher protection for national craft and industrial products through the recognition of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and the possibility of certifying the product processing stages through blockchain;
- the possibility of a direct intervention by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, which will be able to take over the ownership of Historical Trademarks of National Interest in order to safeguard the continuity of the trademarks of companies that cease their activity.
