EPO on Unitary Patent: start of transitional measures to 1 January 2023
Allowing early requests for unitary effect and requests for a delay in issuing the decision to grant a European patent 18 November 2022
In order to support users in the forthcoming entry into force of Unitary Patent protection, expected to be on 1 April 2023 as indicated in the official roadmap, the European Patent Office (EPO) has decided to set the starting date of its transitional measures to 1 January 2023.
Such transitional measures will therefore allow patent applicants to file, as from 1 January 2023, early requests for unitary effect and requests for a delay in issuing the decision to grant a European patent.
